PART A:
a)Green computing, also called green technology, is the environmentally responsible use of computers and related resources. Such practices include the implementation of energy-efficient central processing units (CPUs), servers and peripherals as well as reduced resource consumption and proper disposal of electronic waste (e-waste).

b) i)Develope a sustainable green computing plan.
   ii)Recycle.
  iii)Make environmentally sound purchase decisions.
  iv)Reduce paper consumption.
  v)Converse energy.

PART B:
a) 1) In computer networks and telecommunications, a dedicated line is a communications cable or other facility dedicated to a specific application, in contrast with a shared resource such as the telephone network or the Internet.

2)Integrated Services for Digital Network (ISDN) is a set of communication standards for simultaneous digital transmission of voice, video, data, and other network services over the traditional circuits of the public switched telephone network. It was first defined in 1988 in the CCITT red book. Prior to ISDN, the telephone system was viewed as a way to transport voice, with some special services available for data. The key feature of ISDN is that it integrates speech and data on the same lines, adding features that were not available in the classic telephone system. There are several kinds of access interfaces to ISDN defined as Basic Rate Interface (BRI), Primary Rate Interface (PRI), Narrowband ISDN (N-ISDN), and Broadband ISDN (B-ISDN).

3)Digital subscriber line (DSL, originally digital subscriber loop) is a family of technologies that provide Internet access by transmitting digitaldata over the wires of a local telephone network. In telecommunications marketing, the term DSL is widely understood to mean asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL), the most commonly installed DSL technology. DSL service is delivered simultaneously with wired telephone service on the same telephone line. This is possible because DSL uses higher frequency bands for data. On the customer premises, a DSL filter on each non-DSL outlet blocks any high frequency interference, to enable simultaneous use of the voice and DSL services.

4)Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP) is a technology for providing Internet access by running fiber optic cable directly from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to a user's home or business. It facilitates much faster speeds than dial-up and most coaxial cable Internet connections, and generally needs to be serviced less. It's also considered one of the most "future proof" types of Internet technology, since there are no foreseeable devices that could use more bandwidththan can be sent via fiber optic cables. Despite its benefits, it is difficult and expensive to install.

5)T-carrier, sometimes abbreviated as T-CXR, refers to one of several digital transmission systems developed by Bell Labs. T-carriers are used in North America, South Korea, and Kyoto

6)Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is, according to the ATM Forum, "a telecommunications concept defined by ANSI and ITU (formerly CCITT) standards for carriage of a complete range of user traffic, including voicedata, and video signals". ATM was developed to meet the needs of the Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network, as defined in the late 1980s,[and designed to unify telecommunication and computer networks. It was designed for a network that must handle both traditional high-throughput data traffic (e.g., file transfers), and real-timelow-latency content such as voice and video.

Tutorial 3(B) – 24th SEPT. 2013

1)Cloud storage is a model of networked enterprise storage where data is stored in virtualized pools of storage which are generally hosted by third parties

2)

You can upload photos or files to the DropBox.

You can share your files and photos with your friends.

 Part 2
1)In a hard disk information / data is written on the  platters by the read and write heads. The heads are not in actual contact with the disk they are actually slightly above the magnetic surface of the platter. The heads detects the magnetization of the platter right below them. The actuator arm aids the heads in covering the platter area. The surface is divided into micro sized areas known as magnetic domains. Every magnetic domain has a magnetic dipole which has their own field. The write heads read/write by magnetizing the area. It generates a strong magnetic field for this purpose.

Tutorial 2 – 13rd SEPT. 2013

2 i) Portal- A web portal is most often one specially-designed Web page at a website which brings information together from diverse sources in a uniform way. For example, Msn and Yahoo.

ii) News- An online newspaper, also known as a web newspaper, which exists on the World Wide Web or Internet, either separately or as an online version of a printed periodical. For example, sin chew daily and google news.

iii) Informational- A informational website is a website that provide information and not for commercial purposes. For example, Government website and Analytical Science Digital Library.

iv)- Business/Marketing- A Business Website is a website that involved application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in support of all the activities of business. Commerce constitutes the exchange of products and services between businesses, groups and individuals and can be seen as one of the essential activities of any business. Electronic commerce focuses on the use of ICT to enable the external activities and relationships of the business with individuals, groups and other businesses. For example, Ebay and Amazon.

V) Blog- A blog (a contraction of the words web log) is a discussion or informational site published on the World Wide Web and consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order (the most recent post appears first). For example, Blogger and Wordpress.

Vi) Wiki- A wiki  is usually a web application which allows people to add, modify, or delete content in a collaboration with others. Text is usually written using a simplified markup language or a rich-text editor. While a wiki is a type of content management system, it differs from a blog or most other such systems in that the content is created without any defined owner or leader, and wikis have little implicit structure, allowing structure to emerge according to the needs of the users. For example, Wikipedia and WikiWikiWeb.

Vii) Online Social Network- A social networking service is a platform to build social networks or social relations among people who, for example, share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections. A social network service consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. For example, Facebook and Twitter.

Viii) Educational- Educaional websites are the sites made for the purpose of education , purpose may vary accordingly it may be to educate them or counsel them. some websites likes facebook provide the facility to make your own page for the institution or wherever you are working for example GSSS Fatehabad is the page having information of its own school for the educational purposes. For example, Ucsi University and Open Culture.

iX) Entertainment- A entertaining website will entertain, rather than provide information that you need or want. For example, Youtube and orisanal.

X) Advocacy- An advocacy website contains content that describes a cause, opinion, or idea (i.e. business/marketing sites). These web sites usually present views of a particular group or association. Sponsors of advocacy websites include the Democratic National Committee, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Society to Protect Human Rights. For example,Greenpeace and World Advacacy.

Xi) Web ApplicationA web-based application is any application that uses a web browser as a client.] The term may also mean a computer software application that is coded in a browser-supported programming language (such as JavaScript, combined with a browser-rendered markup language like HTML) and reliant on a common web browser to render the application executable. For example, sign up for Hotmail and Faceook.

Xii) Content Aggregator- A content aggregator is an individual or organization that gathers Web content (and/or sometimes applications) from different online sources for reuse or resale. There are two kinds of content aggregators: (1) those who simply gather material from various sources for their Web sites, and (2) those who gather and distribute content to suit their customer's needs. For example,  SSS reader and Google reader.

Xiii) Personal-Personal web pages are World Wide Web web pages created by an individual to contain content of a personal nature rather than on behalf of a company, organization or institution. Personal web pages are often used solely for informative or entertainment purposes. For example, Fred Maya and Jon White Studio.
